San Gimignano

March 2004

San Gimignano was incredible. It is a 14th century hilltop city in Tuscany. In 1348, the Black Death killed most of the inhabitants. The city was isolated and near-abandoned. Walking the streets, you can really imagine what it must have been like 600 years ago.

San Gimignano was our favorite place in Italy. The views are awesome and the local vernaccia are some of the most enjoyable wines I've ever tasted. Sadly, these pictures did not turn out well. It drizzled rain the entire day we were there. We will return, someday.
